EOTC Payments

Just a reminder that Friday is the last day for EOTC payments. Some students have handed in their permission slip but have not paid online yet. Please make sure all of these are up to date by Friday.

We are also short about 3 helpers for the Eastern Beach Day and several helpers for the Amazing Race Day if you are able to help that would be really appreciated!

Eastern Beach:
Students will be participating in a range of fun and challenging activities at Eastern Beach. 

Activities will include; Paddle Games, Kayaking, Kite Making, Archery, and Cooperative Games. The students will be transported to and from Eastern Beach via bus. 

Amazing Race: 
In teams you will face obstacles, crush challenges and solve puzzles as you race around Wattle Downs.

Eat food you never thought you would eat, push your body to the limit and rack your brain to be the first to complete these challenges, make it to the pit stop and become the winner of: The AMAZING RACE WATTLE DOWNS

Pikelets

In Room 18 we have been learning about measurement. We have started baking which uses a lot of different types of measurement. For our first cooking experience we made pikelets. As a class we went over the instructions on how to make the pikelets and then were left to collaborate in our groups. We only had one group who had to start again so we were all pretty successful!


















Here is the recipe if you would like to make the pikelets at home:


Pikelets


Ingredients

1 cup plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup milk (approx.)

Method

1. Sift flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl. 
2. In another bowl beat egg and sugar until thick. 
3. Add with milk to the sifted ingredients. Mix until smooth. 
4. Spoon tablespoon-ful amounts onto a hot greased griddle or non-stick frying pan. 
5. Turn pikelets over when bubbles start to appear on the surface. Cook until golden.

Act Safely Comic Strips

At Reremoana School we have created a new system for our behaviour guidelines we call it the ABC's.

We have been focusing on the 'A' - Act Safely for the first two weeks of this term. We have discussed different ways to act safely around the school. We have created comic strips to show how to act safely.

5 Senses of our Cultures

Room 18 had a lot of fun learning about the different cultures of our class mates. We were asked to share what our culture looks, sounds, feels, tastes and smells like. It was very exciting to see what we had brought in to share.


Kate shared about her British heritage and we all got to taste yummy scones!


Dylan shared about is Indian culture.



Dylan said his culture tastes hot and spicy, he brought in peas that were hot! The faces we made when we tried were quite funny! A lot of us needed to have a drink afterwards. 


Lucan brought in a Samoan weapon to share with the class


Bailey brought in fried bread that her Dad made for us to taste! 


There were a lot of amazing tastes and experiences shared with the class today!

Mathematics: Geometry


For the first 3 weeks of Term 3, Room 18 is learning about Geometry. Geometry includes things like identifying 2D and 3D shapes, making and creating nets, translating, rotating and reflecting a shape and using compass directions. We have become very good at identifying different shapes and finding shapes in the classroom that are 2D and 3D.
Here are some pictures of us making a net of a cube and pyramid. We then got to design our own nets and ask a buddy to make them.
This week we are looking at reflecting and rotating objects.












Science: Habitats

We are now learning about habitats. A habitat is a place where an animal or plant lives. There are a lot of different types of habitats. Some of the habitats we have been learning about are the desert, swamp, rocky shore, arctic, rainforest and coral reefs. We look forward to sharing our posters with you when we have completed them.

For this activity we were matching up the animals to the habitat that they would live in




At this station we were matching up explanations of different habitats to their headings. For example a dry place with lots of cacti would match up with desert.



Here the children are looking at the food chain in different habitats. They had to find the plant then the animal that would eat that plant, then the animal that would eat the first animal. For example a rabbit eats grass and is eaten by an owl. 

Buddy Reading

Room 10 has not been up to the new classroom block and were very curious to see the new two level building so they came up to Room 18 for a visit. Room 18 read their books to Room 10 and made our guests feel welcomed. We enjoyed having a visit from the little kids of the school.

Science: Classification

Today we learnt that in the science world all living things are grouped together into similar groups this process is called classification.

In class in groups we had to decide which living things belong together and what we should call these groups.



Then we got piece of paper with lots of different pictures of living things which we had classify into groups.
